Serving as Park Designer and Landscape Architect, Human Nature collaborated with a multidisciplinary team comprised of BHDP, IBI Group, and THP to develop a new master plan for Washington Park, one of Cincinnati’s oldest public parks located in a rapidly redeveloping historic neighborhood on the national historic register. The design team worked with the client team, local stakeholders, and community members to craft a park vision that acknowledges the historic surroundings including the adjacent two historic landmarks, while providing new and contemporary amenities. The master plan and construction preserved as many of the existing large trees as possible, renovated the historic bandstand at the center of the park, preserved historic entry columns and added several new improvements, including an oval lawn for civic events and concerts, a dog park, gardens, an interactive fountain, a custom play environment, and park gateways. The plan addresses the complex needs and values of a diverse and active community.
