Cincinnati District 3 Police Station

CLIENT: City of Cincinnati

LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH

SCOPE: Schematic Design through Construction

STATUS: Construction Completed 2015

CERTIFICATION: LEED Platinum

Human Nature collaborated with Emersion Design as part of a multi-disciplinary team on the design of a new police station for the City of Cincinnati. The building and site concept were designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification on what was originally a paved site. The site design includes bioretention areas to capture and treat runoff and a plant palette that does not require irrigation. A stone downspout feature receives water from the roof and conveys it to a stone-lined “stream”. A dynamically paved entry plaza along the street creates a civic forecourt and welcomes visitors to the facility. The plaza includes seating stairs, benches, flags, and an integrated entry sign. Trees on the west side of the building shade the building from afternoon sun. The naturalized planting scheme was designed to reduce maintenance costs and serve as a example of a new landscape aesthetic and management paradigm for city projects.
