Lower Mill Creek Watershed
CLIENT: Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati
LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH
SCOPE: Regional Master Planning
STATUS: Completed 2009
Human Nature teamed with Strand Associates, Inc. to critically analyze the watershed and to propose innovative wet weather strategies for removing stormwater runoff and natural base flows from the combined sewer system. The wet weather strategies summarized in the November 2009 Coarse Evaluation Summary Report identify almost 3.2 billion gallons of annual stormwater runoff that enters the combined sewer system. Currently, the results of this comprehensive effort are influencing MSDGC’s approach to compliance with US EPA mandates, as well as interstate planning projects and economic redevelopment strategies in Cincinnati’s urban core. Ancillary recommendations included recommendations for reconnecting historical natural systems, restoring wildlife corridors and habitat, improving regional water quality, and building upon community connectivity.
