Human Nature was asked to join the design team, led by CDS Associates, to provide landscape architectural services for a new, state-of-the-art, high performance facility for The Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO). The site master plan addressed the complex logistical needs of the facility while creating a compelling visitor/ employee arrival experience. Human Nature generated grading plans, paving plans, planting plans, details and specifications during construction documentation. To help implement the goal of building a highly sustainable building and site, Human Nature designed and incorporated a broad range of landscape-based stormwater best management practices (BMPs), including bioswales, bioretention basins, and porous concrete parking areas. This facility has achieved LEED Gold status for its extensive use of sustainable technologies, strategies, and processes.
